Purdue North Central to Offer Civil Engineering Degree
Westville, Ind. -- The Indiana Commission for Higher Education (ICHE) has granted approval to Purdue University North Central for the College of Engineering and Technology to offer a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering. PNC students will have the opportunity to enroll in these bachelor's degree classes for the fall of 2013.
This becomes the 23rd bachelor's degree program offered by PNC.
"I am pleased that our students now have the opportunity to earn a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering at Purdue North Central," said PNC Chancellor Dr. James B. Dworkin. "This degree presents another option for students who want to earn an esteemed, affordable Purdue engineering degree close to home. A degree in Civil Engineering can open the door to a number of exciting career options."
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the national outlook for engineering is favorable and the demand for civil engineers is expected to grow.The average annual salary in civil engineering is $77,560.The Hoosier Hot 50 Jobs report of the fastest growing career fields lists several jobs directly related to civil engineering.
Dr. Thomas Brady, dean of the PNC College of Engineering and Technology, explained that civil engineering is involved with the analysis, design and development of structural systems, construction projects, transportation projects, environmental projects and water quality. Typical entry-level position titles include civil engineer, environmental engineer, transportation engineer and project engineer.This new degree program now gives students the opportunity to obtain an engineering degree from PNC in the three major engineering disciplines; mechanical, electrical, and civil.
PNC has an articulation agreement with Ivy Tech Community College that allows qualified graduates of the Ivy Tech pre-engineering program to transfer seamlessly to the PNC engineering bachelor's degree programs to continue their studies.
The PNC Civil Engineering program has been reviewed by the Department of Engineering Education and the Department of Civil Engineering at the Purdue University West Lafayette campus. The Civil Engineering curriculum is designed to meet the accreditation requirements for the Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (EAC/ABET).
Today, the Purdue North Central College of Engineering and Technology offers bachelor's degrees in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer&Information Technology, Electrical&Computer Engineering Technology, Construction Engineering&Management Technology, Engineering Technology, and Mechanical Engineering Technology.
