Regional Planning Begins to Pay Off

Marshall County’s regional planning efforts through County Development for the Future, Regional Cities, and Culver’s Stellar designation, are being recognized. These plans are central to the Marshall County Crossroads region being named a finalist in the 2018 Stellar Communities Program. The region consists of leaders from Marshall County, Argos, Bremen, Bourbon, Culver, LaPaz, and Plymouth. In 2017, the Town of Culver was designated as a Stellar Community. This year, the program was expanded to cover larger geographical regions, rather than individual towns and cities.

On April 24th, finalists attended a workshop in Indianapolis to prepare for the regional application process, learn more about funding, and ask questions. The next steps will be putting together a Regional Development Plan due in September and preparing for community presentations in Indianapolis in November. Stellar designees will be announced in December.

The Stellar Communities program is a multi-agency initiative that works with communities to develop strategic investment plans. State agencies include: Indiana Department of Natural Resources, Serve Indiana, Indiana Department of Transportation, Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority, Indiana Bond Bank, Indiana Arts Commission, Indiana State Department of Health, and the Office of Community and Rural Affairs.
