AK Industries Announces Expansion in Plymouth

Plymouth, IN (August 26, 2014) –   AK Industries has announced plans to expand its existing production facility in Plymouth investing approximately $320,000 in new manufacturing equipment and creating three new jobs in 2014. The Plymouth City Council approved a seven year personal property tax abatement as recommended by the Marshall County Economic Development Corporation (MCEDC) supporting the company’s expansion plans. 

AK Industries was founded in 1981 and begun its operations in Plymouth that year. The company has grown to become a leader in waste water industry with products made from fiberglass and polyethylene. Today, AK Industries focuses on the manufacturing of large fiberglass lift stations with capacities up to 10,000 gallons for municipalities as well as smaller basins for the residential market. Other custom and specialized rotational molding services are provided for various industries such as playground equipment manufacturers. 

“As demonstrated through their continual investment in the City of Plymouth, AK Industries is positioning itself to remain a market leader and innovator in their field,“ stated Bill Davis, President of the MCEDC Board of Directors. “The City is pleased to support this expansion and approval of the tax abatement. AK has a long history in Plymouth and is viewed as a valued corporate citizen,” stated Mayor Mark Senter.

The announcement marks AK Industries second expansion in the last two years. In July 1012, the company invested $800,000 in a building expansion project and a new $500,000 three-arm rotational molding machine. This machine is largest in operation the U.S. The company now occupies over 150,000 sq. ft. of manufacturing and office space. With the latest expansion, AK Industries will employ approximately 90 full time workers.
